The Nintendo Wii Game List - A Quick Reference To Already Released And Soon To Come Wii Games.
by Steven Fields

What impressed me the most about the Nintendo Wii was not only its unique controller and game play method, but also the sheer volume of good, high quality launch titles that were released with the console on the day it became available in both the USA as well as Japan. While many console manufacturers such as Microsoft and Sony struggle with having more than 2 REALLY good release games when they launched their systems, Nintendo seems to have had it in their back pocket from the beginning, probably shipping development systems to developers long before the release date.

For the sake of staying true to readers world wide, I have included both North American as well as Japanese Launch titles and to be released or work in progress titles. While Japanese Wii owners wont be able to play North American Wii games by deault (and the same goes for North American Wii owners not able to play Japanese games) I have included them because with the use of a Mod Chip, you can play any of the games below on any region Nintendo Wii console.

Ive broken down the list (Thanks to Eurogamer.net for the list) into three categories. First the Launch titles - the games that are released on the date of the actual console released. Then December 2006 released games. I seperated these because they were there just a month after the launch date. And finally, 2007 Released AND Working titles. The term released needs no explanation. Working titles means only that some of the games in that list are still works in progress and may or may not yet be available to purchase. In some cases it shows only ACTION GAME (KONAMI) which means that Konami is released a yet to be named Action Game for the Nintendo Wii. There is no game name available yet, simply because even Konami have not yet decided on a name.

Launch titles - Titles that are released with the console. While PS3 had only 6 or 7 release games, or launch games as theyre called (games released at the same time as the console) the Nintendo Wii debut had a staggering 15 different games on release day. Something for everyone, and pretty much every genre was covered.

  • Elebits (Konami)
  • Ennichi no Tatsujin (Namco Bandai)
  • Hajimete no Wii aka 'Wii Play' (Nintendo)
  • Kororinpa (Hudson)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo)
  • Machi-Kuru Domino (Success)
  • Necro-Nesia (Spike)
  • Red Steel (Ubisoft)
  • SD Gundam Revolution (Namco Bandai)
  • Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (SEGA)
  • Swing Golf Pangya (Tecmo)
  • Tamagotchi no Pikapika Daitouryou (Namco Bandai)
  • Trauma Centre: Second Opinion (Atlus)
  • Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (Nintendo)
  • Wii Sports (Nintendo)
  • Wing Island (Hudson)

December 6th, 2006 titles - These titles came out a few weeks after the launch date of the Wii. Most of the games in the list below are for the USA market, with a few Janapese games included. Because I wanted this to be a complete list, I have included even Japanese games, which can be played with the Wii mod chip installed into your North American or European / UK Nintendo Wii Console.

  • Bleach Wii (SEGA)
  • Cooking Mama (Taito)
  • Crayon Shin-chan (Banpresto)
  • Furifuri (Taito)
  • Mahjong Wii (KOEI)
  • Need For Speed: Carbon (EA)
  • Pokemon Battle Revolution (Nintendo)
  • Rayman Raving Rabbids (Ubisoft)
  • Sengoku Musou Wave (KOEI)
  • Sudoku (Hudson)
  • Tsuri Master (Hudson)

2007 - Released and Working titles. Working Titles usually refer to games that are still in development. While they almost always have already been named, in some cases theres not yet a game name attached to a project (or there is, but its only a development name) Its important that I state that a good portion of the list below is filled with Japanese Import Nintendo Wii Games. If youre in the USA or Europe / UK, you can still play them, and have access to them. But youll need a Nintendo Wii Mod Chip such as the WiiKey or the Cyclowiz Nintendo Wii Mod Chip in order to enable them to be played on a USA or European / UK Nintendo Wii Console.
